Bayani Challenge 2014
I’ve been joining Gawad Kalinga’s Bayani Challenge activity for 3 consecutive years already (2011 in Bantayan Island, Cebu; 2012 in Amlan, Negros Oriental; 2013 in Antequera, Bohol). For my 4th year, I’m going back to Bohol — from April 12 to April 16. :)
This year’s Bayani Challenge is going to happen in 12 provinces — Antique, Aklan, Bohol, Capiz, Cebu, Eastern Samar, Iloilo, Leyte, Negros Occidental, Palawan, Samar, and Zamboanga. And unlike the previous years, it’s gonna run for a whole month, from April 9 (Araw ng Kagitingan) to June 12 (Araw ng Kalayaan)! These are the activities to expect:
It’s been a while since I’ve been on the ground for volunteer work, and I’m pretty excited to be back!
If you want to spend your summer building communities and meeting new people, head over to the Bayani Challenge website for more information on the event and how to register! :D
Bayani Challenge 2013 Experience
A few weeks before the big event last March 23-27, I’ve decided to join the Bayani Challenge 2013 in Bohol. But for this year, I didn’t go there as a participant — I was with the service team.
I was appointed Social Media Coordinator for the event at Antequera, Bohol, but because the network signal there wasn’t entirely reliable, I missed to post some [personal] updates, so I’ll just post them here through lots of pictures. ;)
Bayani Challenge 2013 Unity Dance
Ten days to go until the Bayani Challenge 2013! Are you excited? ‘Coz I am! It’s gonna be my 3rd time to join this week-long event (I’m gonna be in Bohol), and with that goes my 3rd unity dance! The steps are pretty simple and easy to follow. If you’re joining the event, be sure to master this as we will be dancing it everyday (and maybe find rectangular sleeping bags to use in camping)! :D
If you haven’t registered yet, go ahead and visit the BC 2013 registration site. ;)
Bayani Challenge & GKabarkada
I first joined the Bayani Challenge last 2011 in Bantayan Island (shortly after my graduation). I didn’t have a close friend in my team back then. I just got acquainted with almost all of them during our meetings and on the event itself. But I didn’t hesitate in joining the team from my university. In fact, I was so excited to make new friends! And the Bayani Challenge served as the water to our friendship plant ‘coz after a week of heroism and casual bonding, the GKabarkada was born. :)
Spot me in the picture! Haha! That was taken last April 2012 in Amlan, Negros Oriental during the Bayani Challenge.
I first joined this 5-day event last 2011 and that was one of my highlights of that year (unfortunately, my blog post about it went down with my WordPress blog). Ever since then, I’ve been volunteering for Gawad Kalinga and I joined the same event last year, which also was an instant highlight. :)
It’s an event that could change your life and the life of others. I encourage you to join this year in any of the 34 provinces, and who knows, you just might like it! :D
