Bayani Challenge & GKabarkada
I first joined the Bayani Challenge last 2011 in Bantayan Island (shortly after my graduation). I didn’t have a close friend in my team back then. I just got acquainted with almost all of them during our meetings and on the event itself. But I didn’t hesitate in joining the team from my university. In fact, I was so excited to make new friends! And the Bayani Challenge served as the water to our friendship plant ‘coz after a week of heroism and casual bonding, the GKabarkada was born. :)

Even after the Bayani Challenge, we still made time to meet up and do things a barkada does — sleepover, movie marathon, picnic — those sorts of stuff. And we’re actually close friends now! :D

I can’t help but look back to those days with a big smile on my face and a feeling of wistfulness. That’s why ever since then, I’ve been volunteering for Gawad Kalinga — it brings back so much good memories. Even the Bayani Challenge last year in Amlan, Negros Oriental was full of delightful moments — bayanihan in the rain, very long line of boodle fight, fire hose bath, and of course, the build with the Armed Forces of the Philippines! :D

With all the wonderful experiences I’ve had with the Bayani Challenge, I’m expecting this year’s event will be as enjoyable as my past challenges, or even more! (We’re planning to join the Bayani Challenge in Bohol. I’m hoping and praying that I can still take a leave from work. :P)
Before ending this post, I would like to invite you to gather your friends and acquaintances and join this year’s Bayani Challenge in any of the 39 sites/towns and take part in nation building because who knows, you might have a more exhilarating adventure than I did! Please do check out the links below for more information on this event. :)
