  1. 8th Gawad Kalinga Builders Camp

Last August 17-19 (Friday night to Sunday morning), GK Cebu held the 8th Gawad Kalinga Builders Camp at GK Amazing Village in Budlaan. And I’m happy to say that though it was a chance for the people to chill and enjoy the long weekend at the mall or the beach or wherever, they chose to spend it the GK way. Read on to know what happened. :)

On Friday night was the introduction and grouping of participants. There were only two groups formed that night — Team Infinity and Team KaSuMiJo. Both teams painted their flags/banners and were asked to explain.

In fairness, their explanations were char. Hehe. After the activities, the campers were then asked to pair and were assigned to a Kapitbahayan who would be their host family for the duration of the camp.

On Saturday, more participants came and another group, Team Bongga, was formed, and Team KaSuMiJo was changed to Team KaSuMiJoSa since a member was added. :P

The highlights of the day were the Kalinga Service where we did the village clean-up in the morning, and of course, the ever-favorite Enduro Challenge in the afternoon!

Those are just some of the challenges for the campers. Aww, how I miss our camp (4th). XD

There were also talks hosted by different GK people that helped us realize our roles as Filipinos and what more we can do to serve the country.

At night, the campers and the service team lit some candles and said their taya for the country. Ikaw, anong itataya mo para sa bayan?

On Sunday, the last day of the camp, we had the padugo build where we continued to clean the village and painted the bridge railings under the heat of the sun. I just used my hanky to cover my head since I didn’t have any Kangol Caps in hand.

After the last talk, BOODLE FIGHT! No need to explain. XD

We had some resting time and photo sessions afterwards. :)

Those are the campers in front and the service team at the back. This batch may not have a lot of participants but I’m pretty sure they still enjoyed the camp and that they learned something, whether from the talks, the activities, or their conversations with their host families. We’re hoping to see your faces again in our GK builds! WALANG IWANAN! ;)

Tea, Anyone?

Hey there! I'm Mikyu. I'm a 23-year-old Cebuana/Filipina who loves the waters and all kinds of adventures. That's me in the photo above doing my signature pose (taken by Mumu using a film camera). Hehe! I'm a fresh-from-the-oven ABAP/Java programmer, a Gawad Kalinga volunteer, a photography enthusiast, a frustrated artist, and more whatnots. This is my personal lifestyle blog, and I'm glad you're here! Enjoy your stay! ;)
