λευκό – a Grecian White Party

I’m proud to say that last Saturday, August 22, 2009, the University of San Carlos Industrial Engineering Acquaintance Party 2009, with this entry’s title as the theme (it’s pronounced as Leyko), was a successful one!
The party wasn’t totally Greek or Grecian. Just a bit of it.
Pamela (Socio-Cultural Committee Head), Faith (IE Council Secretary), D-an (Batch 2012 PRO; Crush ng IE Head Organizer), and I (IE Council President
) went together to Costabella Tropical Beach Hotel in the morning to make the necessary preparations. The decorators that we assigned from Batch 2013 were there before we were, so they were able to start decorating the place already.
It was a sunny day, and we were hoping that the fine weather would continue until the end of the program.
Since the place was already set up by the resort’s crew, there were no major burdens that were cast upon us that time.
After lunch, we started to get busier. Aimee (Batch 2011 Vice President), Shalee (IE Council Vice President – External), Stanley (Physical Committee Head), and Emmeline (Community Service Committee Head) were busy with some bus stuff at the school while my group at the resort were finalizing the layout of the place.
The guys from Sound Balloon were setting up the sound system, and the staff of the resort were setting up the tables and chairs.
Shalee gave me some bus updates through text, and I in turn gave her some resort updates.
The first of the 3 Villahermosa buses arrived earlier than expected so we were glad to start the registration earlier also (2pm).
Pamela and Faith were assigned for the registration, and I just volunteered to be the usher since I didn’t want to be idle.
The other buses came later, so the line didn’t end until everyone was able to get their meal stubs after their tickets were punched. I was running (just walking fast, actually) back and forth from the gazebo (registration area) to the coconut grove (function area) to check if things were going well.
After Aires (Spiritual Committee Head), Ainee (Batch 2011 Secretary; Catholic Charismatic Carolinian), and some others were done with the preparations, the mass started (3:30pm). I wasn’t able to attend since I accompanied Shalee to the cafeteria to eat, and I got busy again with some other things.
The registration was still ongoing since there were those who came later (those who didn’t ride in the bus).
During the registration.
My snack — bananas!
After the mass were the games (4:30pm). I have observed that the people were not that enthusiastic about it since they just wanted to go swimming more than anything else!
I admit, the sea and the pool were very inviting!
But just like the past 3 years, I didn’t think of dipping myself in it since I know that as an officer with tasks, I’d get busy. I’ve got no enough time for leisure or something. I enjoyed watching the people having fun anyway.

Before the games even reached its climax, it rained.
Everyone ran for shelter (maybe except those who were in the waters already). I got worried but I wasn’t totally anxious since the rain wasn’t very hard. I knew it would stop in time for dinner. And it did!
The tables, chairs, and utensils got wet but the staff of the resort dried them for us. After a few announcements and reminders, the Accents of Asia (I told you it wasn’t totally Greek/Grecian!
) dinner started (6pm)
, and bands from Batch 2011 and Batch 2012 played for the duration of the dinner.
We were actually ahead of schedule.
The serving of the food didn’t go as planned, but it was still orderly, so no worries there.
I was only able to eat dinner after addressing some concerns. I wasn’t there during the food tasting (I was at Sumilon with CBS!) so I was amazed with the food! It was very delicious that I finished everything in my plate!
After the dinner was the Crush ng IE (7:30pm).
I think it’s the first time that the IE pageant is formal-ish. The hosts were Stephanie and Kevin, and they did pretty well. The flow of the program was organized (though I think the people would’ve preferred a more easygoing one).
We just inserted the raffle draws in this part. All the prizes were claimed then and there, except for the mp3 player, which is still with me ‘coz we haven’t contacted the winner yet.
Anyway, the ones who won the Crush ng IE were the representatives from Batch 2010 (boy) and Batch 2012 (girl).
Female representatives of the Crush ng IE.
Male representatives of the Crush ng IE.
Then the batch presentations followed (8:30pm).
The hosts in this part were Densio and Dean. As expected, their ad lib exchange of jokes and stuff kept the show very lively!
Since I chose not to take part in our batch presentation, I just stayed with the spectators, taking videos of each number.
Here’s the playlist of all the batch presentations (go, Batch 2011!) except for the presentation of the 5th years. I haven’t uploaded it yet. Large file.
The spectators — majority in white!
The jamming session started right after the announcement of winners (9:30pm).
Unfortunately, only one band was able to play during this part since it was already 10pm and we had to end our program already.
Bassist: Sir Ritche; Vocalist: Sir Donn; the rest are students.
Everybody started to evacuate the place and went home already except for some first year students who stayed behind for some reason, and a crowd of fifth year students who, apparently, didn’t know that the buses were already there to fetch them (so they were left behind).
I, together with Aimee, Shalee, and Jessa, just hitched a ride with Pam.
In the car and when I was home already, a fifth year student called me a couple of times and ranted about what happened. She scolded me, and I can hear people in the background also whining.
I didn’t want to hear any more of their frenzies, so I put down the phone and just settled the conflict through text. We got okay, but I think I wasn’t able to convince them totally.
They were kind of indifferent. Daaahhh. At least I tried.
Anyway, all the hard work and headaches that the Industrial Engineering Council went through had paid off.
This thing had kept our minds swirling for weeks. Or at least it did mine.
And now, it’s over.
To everyone who partook in this activity, THANK YOU VERY MUCH!
I don’t think I have to expound this. As long as you know that I’m grateful, it’s enough for me. Mahahaha! Till the next party, IE’s!
